Companies¶
A company is the profile your organisation runs under: its name, logo, description, address and contact details, and the team that can manage it. This section covers everything you can do with the companies you belong to — creating one, keeping its details current, deciding who may act on it, linking it to an event as the organizer, and deleting it when it is no longer needed.
You do not need a company to run an event. You need one when you want the public event page to show your organisation instead of a typed-in name — and, either way, when several people need to share responsibility for the same organizer profile.
A company role and an event team role are different things¶
The single most common mix-up in this area is reading a Moderator badge on a company and assuming it carries the same weight as a Moderator badge on an event. The two are set independently, but they are not entirely separate in effect: a company linked to an event as its organizer hands that company's Admin and Moderator members the right to edit that event.
| Company member role | Event team role | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it lives | On a company's Team members roster | On one event's Team |
| The roles it has | Admin, Moderator, Member | Moderator, Host |
| What it decides | Who may edit company details, who may manage the roster, who may delete the company | Who may help you run that one event |
| How wide it reaches | The company itself — plus, for Admin and Moderator, every event that names it as the organizer | That event only, and nothing else |
A company's own Member role is the weakest of the three and still grants nothing on the company's details or roster — nor on any event that company organizes. Admin and Moderator reach further: besides the company's own details and roster, they may edit any event that names that company as its organizer, even one they neither own nor serve on the team of. It stops there, though. The link runs from the company to the event, not back, so connecting a company to an event never makes anybody an Admin of it.
What connecting a company to an event really grants
Connecting a company to an event fills that event's organizer name, description and image from the company — and it also makes the event editable by the company's Admin and Moderator members. That is the whole of it, and it is easy to miss from both sides: the company's Member role gains nothing on the event, and the grant is a right to edit it, not ownership of it. It exists only while the event still names the company as its organizer.
